I’m a reporter with Fountain Ink magazine where I cover international affairs, crime and digital media. Some notable works of narrative journalism that I have done at Fountain Ink include: reports of poaching by international smugglers in the Andaman Islands; the rise of social media and the challenges it poses to traditional media, and how terror groups use it; and the presence of an illegal economy at Za’atari Refugee Camp, Syria’s largest refugee camp. I have extensively covered the “Arab Spring”, and continue to report on the Syrian conflict. I have followed the rise of the ISIS closely, and it has been an important part of my reportage.

I began my career at The Indian Express in New Delhi in 2008. I wrote stories on the 26/11 attacks, interviewed Aung San Suu Kyi days after her release from house arrest, and covered three fashion weeks for the Express. I studied International Relations at the London School of Economics, and wrote my dissertation on JFK’s handling of the Cuban Missile Crisis. I was awarded the Mumbai Press Club’s Red Ink Awards in 2015 and 2017 for crime reporting; in 2019 for reporting on Business and Economy and the Society of Publishers in Asia award for reporting on women’s issues in 2018 and on human rights in 2020.

I was invited to speak at the 2018 GIJN Asian Investigative Journalism Conference in Seoul on investigating criminal networks. My work has been published in the New York Times, the Atlantic, the Hindu and Kafila. I have travelled overland across South East Asia, South Asia, West Africa and the Middle East working in refugee camps, managing the Beat Bums and twirling fire on the beach.
